Feedthroughs
Hittman-brand feedthroughs are available in an array of shapes and sizes. Greatbatch has experience developing feedthroughs as simple as one lead or as complicated as 22 or more. The lead-wire design can also be bent, flattened, tapered, or solder-dipped and may vary in length

Hittman feedthroughs combine industry-leading engineering know-how and are hermetically sealed to ensure that body fluids do not contact internal device components while they deliver effective therapy.

A typical Hittman feedthrough consists of several components: flange, insulator, braze material and lead wire.
Flanges are made from unalloyed titanium and can be single or double lip or skirted. Single lip flanges fit into the case hole for subsequent laser welding. Double lip flanges are a self-fixturing design for placement at the seam between case halves. Skirted flanges allow encapsulation or filter insertion.
The insulator materials are aluminum oxide or synthetic ruby. Insulators can be slotted or counterbored and flush to the flange on one or both sides. Although feedthroughs are custom-designed, GB does carry several in stock ceramics.
Braze material is typically 99.99% gold. Alloys such as Cu/Ag, Ni/Au, and In/Cu/Ag can also be used.
Lead wires can be 99.95% pure Pt, 90 Pt/ 10 Ir, and Niobium. A Nickel/Iron/Cobalt alloy can be used for special applications. Common diameters range from .010" to .020". There are many options for lead wire designs, including bent leads, flattened or tapered ends, solder dipped and differential lengths.
